I'm Will and I'm a photographer based in the greater Vancouver area. I specialize in wedding, lifestyle and family framing. My photography can be surmised as focused minimalism. What the hell does that mean? I don't really know, I made it up...but to me, these images is what represents my work.
Simplistic focus. I overdo this at times, but photography to me, is about perfecting what we do best, reaching out to refine what we don't do so well, and sometimes taking a leap of courage to try something exciting.
I love the outdoors and try to have a synergistic approach when framing my couples, families, and individuals. This is where my eye tends to lead me to...for now.
In 2010, for Christmas, my now wife wanted a DSLR camera to document our first babies birth and for her to take pictures of us. That never happened. Well the kid did, she came, and my wife never took pictures of us or our baby. I did...and that's how this serendipitous journey started.
Fast forward to today and I never knew how in love I would be in framing others. It started with my family, they were my test subjects, I refined my technique and here I am...continually growing, continually challenging my eye behind the lens.
I've worked in paediatric palliative care for 16 years now, first as a paediatric care aide and now as a nurse. It's an emotionally challenging and rewarding life. I've cherished the lessons, the private moments, my career with children has taught me, and in this way, this has formed the way that I take photos.
I understand how important a life is, and I understand how important that person, that child, that moment is to you and I try to candidly try to evoke a moment; that personifies your relationship.
I know, it sounds a bit flowery doesn't it?
Funny enough, my middle name is Samoan: "Falea'au" and pronounced,...kinda sounds like "Flower". HA... so there you have it.
Hopefully, this little blurb gives you a little glimpse into who your photographer (me) is.
Looking forward to framing you!!!!
Will "Flower" Van Nen
